What is your Wall?

Every step needed to end the injustice in our world today is outlined in the book of Nehemiah. It’s simply a matter of God’s people stepping up and becoming a Nehemiah in their generation.

Nehemiah 1:3-6
They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said: “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against you.

Can you relate? Can you make this passage relevant in today’s world? Let’s try this:

They said to me, “Those who survived extreme poverty are in great trouble and disgrace. The infrastructure is broken down, and its stability has been burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said: “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the faithful of this world. I confess the sins we of developed countries, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against you.

Those who survived poverty are in great trouble and disgrace, they could be the next to be sold into child sex slavery. Those who survived poverty are in great trouble and disgrace, they could be the next to starve to their death. Those who survived poverty are in great trouble and disgrace, they could be the next to die a slow death to a preventable disease. Those who survived poverty are in great trouble and disgrace…

Will we mourn, fast, pray and take action as Nehemiah to change the course of history in our generation? Will we rebuild the wall that has been burned to the ground? Will we take a stand?

When we read through the book of Nehemiah, we see how this man of God, prayed, sought out opportunities in his sphere of influence, rallied a team and took action.

With this kind of action, there will be opposition. Nehemiah didn’t quit, he pushed through, made a way with God being his driving force to accomplish the very thing that keep him up at night, the very thing that made him weep.

What makes your knees buckle, fall to the ground and wept? There is injustice in this world that when truly realized, will bring you to a state of uncontrollable weeping. Will you have a Nehemiah experience? Will you begin by mourning, fasting and praying? Then take action, keeping God by your side the entire step of the way. Join the initiative of Live58.org.
